Calcium is one of the most important minerals in our body,

What is the “PLUS” in Coral Calcium Plus?

Calcium is the most common mineral found in the body. It is necessary to build and maintain strong bones and teeth. Calcium also aids in other processes like muscle contraction, blood clotting, blood vessel contraction, neurotransmission in the nervous system and secretion of enzymes and hormones. Calcium is essential for smooth functioning of the heart muscles and assists in the muscular movements of intestines, or the peristaltic action, which aids digestion. Calcium helps to maintain healthy glands, especially the thyroid. If were not enough calcium also important role in maintaining a healthy immune system, energy production and cellular maintenance. Calcium improves the acid-alkaline balance in the body and assists in metabolizing iron. It is key in protection against heavy metals and radio-active material.

On average, calcium makes up about over 2% of our body weight assuming that bone mass is within nutritional guidelines. Calcium’s major role is to help bones grow and to keep them strong. Almost all the calcium in the body is stored in a person’s bones. Calcium is added to bones by cells called osteoblasts and is removed from bones by cells called osteoclasts. When added to the bone structure calcium helps bones to remain strong and stiff enough to carry the weight of the body and to protect internal organs. Bones and teeth then become a storehouse, if you will, for calcium. When calcium is needed elsewhere, such as in the bloodstream and soft tissues the body it is drawn from our bones. This process can eventually weaken our bones unless we are diligent in supplementing the calcium intake and restoring the skeletal structure to its normal bone mass. Numerous studies show that low rates of calcium intake are highly correlated with low bone mass and bone fracture rates. Calcium is involved in most body functions and when there is a condition known as calcium deficiency the calcium that is stored in the bones and teeth is used to make up the difference. This contributes to loss of bone mass and is a precursor for osteoporosis. This disease affects 10 million Americans, 80 percent of whom are women, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Another 34 million Americans have low bone mass (osteopenia), a condition that precedes osteoporosis. Although osteoporosis is much more common in women, it also can affect men. In fact, after age 65, the rate of bone loss in men is the same as in women. One-third of men who are at least age 75 have osteoporosis.

As you can see women over thirty five years of age are especially susceptible to calcium deficiency or osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is most common in women after menopause; it is called postmenopausal osteoporosis, but as I mentioned above osteoporosis may also develop in men and premenopausal women as well. Exercise and proper calcium intake are keys to the prevention of osteoporosis.

There are also studies to show that increased consumption of calcium can lower blood pressure. This makes sense as the calcium helps with smooth muscle contraction to increase the amount of blood that is being pumped through the intravenous system. Then secondarily the unabsorbed calcium in the blood stream is attached to fatty cells and plaque so they can be filtered out by the liver. We also know that calcium aids in the absorption of other vitamins and minerals which could also contribute to lower blood pressure.

One recent study found that mothers who increase their intake of dietary calcium during pregnancy are more likely to give birth to babies with stronger bones and higher birth weights. Another recent study found that women who do not have enough calcium in their diets when breastfeeding risk bone loss around the teeth and gums.

People must get adequate levels of calcium from their diet every day because the body does not make this mineral. In addition, the body’s calcium stores are constantly being depleted through shed skin, nails, hair, sweat, urine and feces. In addition, calcium can only be absorbed in the digestive tract under certain conditions. A protein produced by vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Thus, if the body does not have adequate amounts of vitamin D, it cannot absorb calcium. When calcium levels in the body fall too low, the body begins to break down bone to obtain calcium so that normal biological functions (e.g., nerve and muscle function) can continue.

Typically, a person will not experience any symptoms as a result of lack of calcium in the diet. The body will obtain the calcium it needs by depleting the calcium supply in the bones. Low blood calcium (hypocalcemia) usually does not result from a lack of dietary calcium, but is instead attributed to medical conditions or treatments such as kidney failure, surgical removal of the stomach and use of certain blood-pressure medications (diuretics). Hypocalcemia can cause symptoms such as numbness and tingling in the fingers, muscle cramps, convulsions, lethargy, poor appetite and mental confusion. In extreme cases, it can cause abnormal heart rhythms and may be fatal.

Consuming appropriate levels of calcium is crucial because the body does not make its own calcium. In addition, the body needs a constant supply of calcium to keep bones growing and strong. Bone remodeling is an ongoing process in which bone is broken down (resorbed) and calcium is deposited to replace the bone material that is lost (bone formation). When the amount of calcium in the bloodstream is low, calcium from bone is broken down and is used in the bloodstream. This can deplete the calcium in bones, a process that may take many years. A good calcium supplement can stave off the effects of calcium deficiency. Grandma’s Herbs has what we consider to be a GREAT calcium supplement. We call it Calcium Plus. Coral Calcium Plus combines one of the best know sources for calcium which is coral calcium from Okinawa Japan with several other sources. Pure Okinawa coral calcium is an excellent source of calcium and contains 70 different minerals and trace minerals in a very bio-available form. The synergy between the minerals makes coral calcium very effective. Then the fact that coral polyps digest the minerals cause it to be in an organic form. That makes coral calcium easier to assimilate. There are several different forms of calcium. We add Calcium Citrate which is derived from a citrus base. It is more bio-available than any other calcium and contains 25% concentrations of assimilable calcium. It helps to reduce high blood pressure and does not contribute to the formation of kidney stones. We also add potassium citrate chelate. Potassium is the body’s 3rd most abundant element. It is the main healing mineral and with sodium it also helps to maintain the acid-alkaline balance. It contributes to regulating heart rate and blood pressure. Insufficient potassium has been found to increase the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Potassium aids in energy metabolism and therefore becomes another part of the “PLUS” in our Coral Calcium Plus. Some other additions are:
Phosphorus citrate chelate; vitamin D and calcium are essential for proper phosphorus function. It is necessary for cell division and the maintenance and repair of the entire cellular system. It stimulates blood circulation and can normalize blood pressure. It is the second major ingredient in bone - the ratio being 2 parts of calcium to 1 part of phosphorus.
Magnesium citrate chelate- is called the anti-stress mineral. It is a necessary component for the body to utilize calcium efficiently as well as sodium, potassium, the B complex vitamins and C and E. This mineral helps to calm nerves, build strong bones and teeth and the body tissues. It helps with proper digestion and promotes sleep.
Biotin HCL is essential for normal growth of all body tissues and cells. It helps the body in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fat and protein. It maintains skin, hair, and nerves.
Malic Acid is essential in the formation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). It has been found effective in treating muscle spasms, fatigue and the pain of Fibromyalgia.
Vinegar is very helpful in breaking up the calcium deposits in the joints and is important in the absorption of calcium. Calcium must have acid to prevent its collection in the joints.
Dolomite is composed of oxygen, calcium, magnesium and carbon. All of these elements are synergistic to this formula.
Vitamin D has the main function of regulating all mineral and vitamin metabolism. It is especially effective in metabolizing calcium. It helps prevent tooth decay, conjunctivitis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, stress, cramps and constipation.
Vitamin C is called the youth or stress vitamin. It helps prevent infection by increasing and speeding up activity of white blood cells. It is key in boosting the immune system and destroying viruses and bacteria. Vitamin C converts cholesterol into bile salts and helps in the prevention of gallstones and kidney stones.
Vitamin E is an anti-oxidant. It is probably the most famous anti-oxidant at that. It is necessary for the health of the adrenal and pituitary glands. Vitamin E enhances oxygenation of blood, reduces cholesterol, and strengthens heart muscles.
Zinc is another necessary mineral for proper absorption of calcium. It is essential for growth of children’s bones and teeth. It is a very effective mineral for proper digestion of proteins and helps to maintain healthy hair. It is essential for health of the prostate gland.
There are also some of the most effective herbs contained in our formula. They are;
Wheat Grass which contains large amounts of calcium, magnesium and many other minerals. It has a total acid content that comes very close to the ph 7.4 which symbolizes human blood. It is also rich in vitamins A, B, and C
Alfalfa is rich in calcium. It contains trace minerals, chlorophyll and protein. It contains high amounts of phosphorus, iron, potassium, chlorine, sodium, magnesium, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B16, D, K, and U. It also contains 8 digestive enzymes. Alfalfa helps to prevents cholesterol buildup in the veins and strengthens the central nervous system.
Red Raspberry leaves and pulp is another raw material that is rich in calcium, iron and manganese. It is high in iron citrate, magnesium, selenium and vitamins A & C. It contains moderate amounts of phosphorous, potassium and B complex vitamins.
Parsley is not only a garnish that we see on our dinner plate it is highly nutritious and could be considered a natural vitamin and mineral supplement by itself. It encourages the flushing out of waste products from the joints. The flavonoids are anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It also contains vitamins A, C, and E and high levels of iron.
