Infusions of Teas

An infusion is the simplest way to prepare leaves and flowers, for use as a medicine or as a revitalizing or relaxing drink. It is made like tea, using one herb or combination of several herbs, and it may be drunk either hot or cold. Use 1 tsp dried or 2 tsp fresh herbs to a cup of water. Pour boiling water over the herbs and cover so that the volatile oils do not disperse. Infuse for 15-30 minutes. Ma be restored, covered, in refrigerator or cool place for up to 24 hours. In using medicinal infusions or decoctions drink ½ to 1 cup three times a day. You can also open capsules of herbs and add them to hot water to make a tea. This is often a nice way to take herbs, enjoying a warm cup of tea. The herbs contain phytochemicals, which are the beneficial properties of herbs. Dried herbs contain more concentrated medicinal phytochemicals because they contain less water, so that you need less of them than you do of fresh herbs, from your garden, or from wildcrafting, they can be more flavorful and lots of fun to gather.

Don't be discouraged if you feel “badly” after starting on the herbs. Many herbs start to normalize the body, and detoxify and push out old wastes. This happens very often with ginger tea and in eating cinnamon sticks, both of which are extremely detoxifying. Give tea a chance to work, but remember, everyone is different and there is no one tea that works for everyone. You need to experiment and see what works best for you.
